Speech Sounds

It is difficult to understand what my child is saying and / or other people don’t understand what my child is saying

This might look like…

  • Using the wrong sounds in words (e.g. “look, it’s a tat” instead of ‘cat’)

  • Missing sounds out of words (e.g. “look, it’s a at” instead of ‘cat’)

  • Being frustrated when others don’t understand what they say

How can I help?

Top tips

  • Praise your child’s efforts
  • Model a good example back to your child e.g. if your child says “tat” you say “yes I see the cat
  • Ask your child to show you what they are talking about so you can model the words back to them
